I have my residents card i need to travel to Mexico but my mexican passport is exp. can i still travel to Mex.?
You don`t need a passport to travel anywhere in the western hemisphere. No changes were made on June 1st 2009 and green card holders can still fly without passports.
If you go overseas you need both and in particular you will always need your green card to get back to the US. Passports alone will not get you into the US , You won`t be able to board a plane destined for the US without a green card.
