Do I need to grow a thicker skin or is my place of employment not a good match?
im 24 and I'm a new grad RN
I got hired for my first position this week
The woman who hired me hasn't been a nice person to deal with. she interviewed me on a monday then called me on a wednesday to offer me the job and told me to come in the following tuesday at 11am to sign paperwork. then out of the blue 2 days after she offered me the job on a Friday evening at 4:45 pm she called me and said "Im going to need you to come in right now and sign the papers instead, try and be here be 5:15 at the latest. I live 45 minutes away and had 0 notice and when I told her I couldn't she gave me an attitude and said "Be in my office at quarter to 7 on Tuesday!" So today I wake up bright and early and get there at 6:30 AM, the main entrance wasn't even open! I go in through the patient area and wait....6:45 AM rolls around....7:00 AM.....7:45 AM......8:00 AM finally a friend calls me while I'm sitting in the lobby area and I said "The woman never showed up at the correct time, Im about to leave" when a nurse came out and told me to come wait at the nurses station and that the woman was running late!
She comes in at 10 AM and offers me NO apology and still has an attitude towards me. Then the woman who does the scheduling comes in and takes one look at me and says "WOW, how are you a nurse, you look like you're 16 years old"
absolutely nothing I can do can make me look older. Ill be 25 in a month and I have a baby face...similar to the actress katie holmes from her dawsons creek days. I have been discriminated against constantly for it.....because people feel I look 16 they take advantage of me and treat me like a teenager when Im in my mid twenties.
Then other people were asking the scheduling woman about changing some of their days...she was polite to them and willing to work with them. I asked her if there was anyway I could have 2 consecutive days off in a row as opposed to spreading them all out and she gives me a nasty attitude and says "i worked hard on this schedule, absolutely not, the schedule you have now is the schedule you will have for your entire time you work here, it will not change EVER for any reason"
Is the issue me being too sensitive or does this work place seem like its not a good place to be?
